Typhoon Dolphin

Typhoon Dolphin causes flight chaos in China, with Shanghai set to enter danger zone

Widespread Flight Disruptions

Typhoon Dolphin approached the eastern coast of China on Saturday. Consequently, this powerful storm severely disrupted hundreds of regional flights. For example, Shanghai Pudong International Airport delayed 317 departures and cancelled 78 flights by Saturday evening. Similarly, regional airports in Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Wenzhou reported massive logistical disruptions. In response, major carriers like Air China and China Eastern Airlines quickly offered free ticket changes and full cancellations for affected passengers.

Danger Zones and Severe Alerts

The National Meteorological Centre officially placed Shanghai and Zhejiang province in the storm’s dangerous semicircle. Therefore, these specific areas expect to face much stronger winds and substantially heavier rainfall. Currently, national authorities maintain a severe orange typhoon alert across the entire region. Additionally, they issued a critical red alert warning of high mountain flood risks in eastern Zhejiang. The massive storm will likely make a direct landfall between Zhoushan and Fuding between Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Emergency Responses and Regional Impact

Multiple national and local authorities rapidly activated emergency response measures to combat potential flooding. For instance, Ningbo Lishe International Airport decided to completely suspend all flight operations starting late Saturday night. Furthermore, Zhejiang provincial party secretary Wang Hao explicitly warned that Dolphin could easily surpass the recent devastation caused by Typhoon Bavi. Ultimately, this massive weather system threatens to bring torrential rain and severe thunderstorms to a vast stretch of the Chinese east coast over the next three days.
