Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, has announced his decision to step down from Cabinet. He faces legal proceedings brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed receiving Kamikamica’s formal notice, stating that his resignation will take effect on October 22, 2025. Although he will remain a Member of Parliament and focus on clearing his name.
FICAC has charged Kamikamica with perjury and an alternative count of giving false information to a public servant. His lawyer, Wylie Clarke, noted that Kamikamica had official overseas commitments that had been approved before he became aware of the charges. This is why he will not attend the initial court hearing in Suva.
Prime Minister Rabuka expressed support for Kamikamica’s decision, highlighting his continued loyalty and dedication to the government and the people of Fiji. Rabuka also confirmed that he will personally oversee Kamikamica’s ministerial responsibilities for the foreseeable future.
The case marks a significant development in Fiji’s political landscape, as Kamikamica, a key figure in the government, faces serious allegations that could have wider implications for the administration’s integrity and stability.
