Trump against the US Supreme Court

Donald Trump has asked the highest court in the U.S., the Supreme Court, to get rid of a court’s decision that said most of his trade taxes were against the law. The court had ruled that Trump went beyond his power as president when he used a 1977 law about national emergencies to put these taxes in place. The court’s ruling was that this law does not plainly give the president the right to create such taxes.

This ruling was a big problem for Trump’s tax policies. The court did let the taxes stay for a short time to give his team a chance to fight the decision. Now, Trump has gone to the Supreme Court and wants them to hear the case quickly, hoping for a final answer by the end of the year. On his social media, Trump said that if the decision is not changed, it would “literally destroy the United States of America.”

Experts believe that if the Supreme Court rules against Trump’s taxes, the average tax rate for goods coming into the U.S. could be cut in half. Also, the government might have to pay back billions of dollars. This court case is very important and its final result could have a huge effect on how the U.S. handles trade and on its economy.
