The Government of Iceland reaffirmed its commitment to international reparative justice by making an unrestricted voluntary contribution of €10,000 to the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Reporting by the TFV highlights that this allocation supports physical, psychological, and socio-economic rehabilitation programs for survivors of Rome Statute crimes. Consequently, consistent voluntary financing from State Parties remains critical for sustaining victim assistance initiatives and complementing judicial reparations.
State Action and Reparative Justice Commitments
Iceland has maintained consistent voluntary contributions to the TFV since its initial pledge in 2021. Furthermore, unrestricted contributions grant the Board of Directors crucial flexibility to allocate resources to emergency medical interventions and long-term community rehabilitation.
“State contributions are absolutely essential in driving the work of the Fund and I implore States to enhance their support for reparative justice,” expressed Kevin Kelly, Member of the TFV Board of Directors.
Specifically, the TFV operates across multiple active situation countries to assist survivors of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Multilateral Support and Sustainable Impact
Additionally, State Party funding supports transformative projects, including vocational training and mental health counseling for vulnerable populations. Therefore, reliable multilateral contributions strengthen community resilience and promote long-term peacebuilding efforts.
