APEC Meeting

APEC’s quiet cooperation still matters in a noisy, divided world

APEC is often known for its leaders’ meetings, but much of its real work happens quietly throughout the year. In early 2026, more than a thousand officials met in Guangzhou to discuss practical cooperation across many policy areas. These meetings may not attract media attention, but they play an important role in keeping the region connected.

The gatherings include experts from all 21 member economies and cover topics such as trade, health, technology, energy and transport. Many sessions take place at the same time, focusing on solving specific technical issues. Through this constant dialogue, APEC helps maintain communication even when global politics are tense.

For over 30 years, this steady and practical cooperation has supported stability in the Asia-Pacific. APEC’s approach is based on consensus and avoids confrontation, which allows members to work together despite differences. In a divided and noisy world, this quiet cooperation remains valuable for regional understanding and long-term stability.
