A judge has made a big decision about Google’s Chrome internet browser. He said that Google doesn’t have to sell the browser, which is the most popular in the world. This ruling happened because the government was looking into Google’s power. It was good news for Google, since the government had wanted a much stronger punishment, like making Google sell its main search engine.
Even though Google doesn’t have to sell Chrome, the judge did put some new rules in place. Google can no longer make special deals with other companies to only use its products, like Chrome or the new Gemini app. However, Google is still allowed to pay these companies. The judge said the government went too far by trying to make Google sell parts of its business.
The decision was liked by some people and disliked by others. After the news, Google’s stock price went up, which meant people who own shares in the company were happy. But some groups that fight for consumer rights were upset, calling the ruling a “complete failure.” The judge also considered new things like AI to make sure Google’s control over search doesn’t give them too much power in the new AI world.
