US military says it destroyed 5 more Iranian oil tankers after missile attacks on Navy warship

Recent Military Strikes and Retaliation

Currently, the U.S. military destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in direct response to repeated attacks on its warships. Specifically, U.S. forces targeted these vessels after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards fired ballistic missiles at a Navy warship twice over two days. Furthermore, the crews of the destroyed tankers, which included the Kivik and Derya, were instructed to abandon their ships before the strikes. Consequently, Tehran quickly retaliated by launching multiple missiles toward American military targets located in Jordan. Ultimately, Jordan’s air defense systems successfully intercepted most of these incoming missiles, reporting no immediate casualties.

Economic Sanctions and Global Oil Impact

Meanwhile, these latest strikes represent a dual economic and military approach by President Donald Trump to end the six-month conflict. For instance, the Trump administration also imposed severe new sanctions on dozens of commercial airlines within Iran’s aviation industry. In addition, both nations are fighting to control the critical Strait of Hormuz, severely squeezing the global energy supply chain. As a result, international Brent crude prices briefly climbed near the $100 mark, causing significant political issues for Republicans ahead of the November elections. Indeed, an effective U.S. blockade continues to limit Iranian oil exports while American forces escort limited transit.

Warnings and the Risk of Escalation

Moreover, U.S. and regional officials warn that this intense back-and-forth violence could easily expand. In fact, Secretary of State Marco Rubio firmly stated that Iran will lose more tankers every time they attempt to hit American naval ships. Conversely, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy ordered crews in Kuwait and Bahrain to abandon their vessels, threatening further retaliation against U.S. allies. Similarly, security experts like Danny Citrinowicz cautioned that there is no simple kinetic solution to the Strait of Hormuz crisis. Ultimately, every attempt to impose military control brings both countries much closer to an uncontrollable regional escalation.
