Most Americans Blame Trump for High Prices as Approval Hits New Low

Plunging Economic Approval

Currently, Americans express deep frustration with President Donald Trump over rising prices. Specifically, a new AP-NORC poll reveals incredibly low economic approval ratings. In fact, only 26 percent of adults approve of his overall economic performance. Furthermore, merely 17 percent approve of his handling of living costs. Consequently, these dismal numbers threaten his party before the upcoming midterm elections. Ultimately, 65 percent of adults directly blame his specific policies for these persistently high prices.

Frustration Among Republican Voters

Meanwhile, this widespread economic disappointment extends heavily into his own political base. For instance, about six in ten Republicans now disapprove of his living cost management. Moreover, many conservative voters actively complain about struggling to afford basic groceries and gasoline. Thus, everyday citizens feel their disposable income has completely vanished recently. Additionally, some supporters believe Trump currently focuses on entirely wrong domestic problems. Undoubtedly, they expected this second term to deliver much better economic relief.

Trade Wars and Foreign Conflicts

On the other hand, public dissatisfaction grows rapidly regarding his aggressive international strategies. Indeed, 69 percent of Americans state the Iran war is simply not worth fighting. Likewise, 64 percent believe the president went too far by imposing new tariffs. Conversely, Trump still maintains relative political strength in general border security issues. Because of this, approximately half the country currently approves his immigration control performance. Despite this, only three in ten Americans approve of his overall presidential job.

Historical Presidential Comparisons

Finally, analysts note a sharp political contrast between Trump and his immediate predecessor. Particularly, Trump’s low economic approval closely rivals Joe Biden’s 2022 pandemic rating. However, current voters blame the sitting president much more for high prices. To illustrate, only 44 percent blamed Biden’s policies back in October 2022. Today, a solid majority directly blames Trump for the sustained national inflation. In conclusion, many voters feel presidential tariffs and foreign wars actively worsen the domestic economy.
