Cursor, an artificial intelligence startup specializing in AI coding agents, is currently negotiating a substantial $2 billion funding round that would value the company at over $50 billion, excluding the new investment. Andreessen Horowitz is expected to co-lead this investment round, with participation from Nvidia and Thrive Capital, all of which have previously supported the AI coding startup. This fundraising effort demonstrates the venture capital industry’s strong interest in companies focused on AI coding agents capable of completing various software development tasks for users. Although Cursor was among the first major startups to concentrate on AI coding agents, other companies including Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI have since introduced similar tools.
The company’s rapid growth is evident in its recent fundraising history: in November 2025, Cursor closed a $2.3 billion funding round at a $29.3 billion post-money valuation, following a $900 million investment round in June of the same year. This trajectory shows the company’s valuation has increased significantly in a short period, nearly doubling from its November 2025 valuation to the current proposed valuation. Cursor’s current investor base includes notable firms such as Accel, DST Global, Coatue, and Google.
In February 2026, the startup released several updates designed to enhance the capabilities available to software developers. These improvements included “giving AI agents the ability to test their coding changes and record their actions via videos, logs and screenshots”. These features represent Cursor’s ongoing efforts to maintain its competitive position in the increasingly crowded AI coding agent market, where competition continues to intensify as more established technology companies enter the space.
