Strengthening Regional Capacity and Security
Chinese Taipei pledged USD 650,000 in voluntary funds for joint initiatives to improve human security, women’s economic empowerment, and evidence-based policymaking in the Asia-Pacific. This commitment was formalized in a memorandum of understanding signed ahead of the APEC Informal Senior Officials’ Meeting in Singapore.
Historically, contributions from Chinese Taipei have exceeded USD 13 million and helped establish special sub-funds for Human Security and Women and the Economy, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation and capacity building among member economies.
A portion of the new contribution will bolster efforts that help economies prepare for and respond to major risks and disruptions, including health emergencies and energy security challenges, thus supporting resilient systems for all citizens. Another tranche will expand initiatives that enable women to participate fully in economic life, whether as entrepreneurs, leaders, or workers, while the remainder will strengthen the APEC Policy Support Unit’s research and analysis capabilities.
Advancing Cooperation and Long-Term Vision
In addition, this funding is expected to accelerate tangible project work across the region, since APEC annually funds around 100 collaborative activities that translate leaders’ policy goals into real outcomes.
Strengthened evidence-based policymaking and capacity enhancements aim to help economies develop effective strategies that improve lives throughout the Asia-Pacific community. Moreover, Chinese Taipei’s voluntary support aligns with broader goals such as early realization of the Putrajaya Vision 2040, which seeks deeper integration and shared prosperity.
