Russia launched a major overnight strike against Ukraine’s capital city. Specifically, a massive Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv lasted for five hours. Political Context and Urgent Defense Demands
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the bombardment as a major escalation. Consequently, he issued an urgent appeal to Western allies for help. Specifically, Zelenskyy requested more anti-ballistic defense systems immediately. He emphasized that protecting major cities remains Ukraine’s top priority.
Meanwhile, this military escalation coincides with domestic political unrest inside Kyiv. For example, recent public protests emerged after the removal of the Defence Minister. Demonstrators actively demanded his immediate reinstatement. Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces launched retaliatory drone strikes inside Russia.
