Washington Conversations on Gaza and Iran
U.S. and Israeli leaders are meeting in Washington to align strategic priorities on Iran’s nuclear program and peace plans for Gaza. Because Iran and the U.S. recently held indirect nuclear talks in Oman, Israel accelerated its visit to influence the discussions.
Furthermore, both sides want to prevent any agreement that leaves ballistic missiles or support for militant proxies unaddressed. Netanyahu has emphasized a broader negotiation agenda that extends beyond nuclear limits to missile and proxy restrictions.
U.S. – Iran Negotiations and Military Options
Currently, U.S. – Iran negotiations are described as positive but inconclusive, prompting cautious assessments from all parties. Meanwhile, Washington has warned commercial ships to avoid Iranian waters amid tensions following stalled talks.
In addition, the U.S. is considering deploying an additional aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East if diplomacy stalls. These steps reflect growing concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions, missile capacity, and regional influence.
Gaza Peace Process Developments
Turning to Gaza, Trump’s “Board of Peace” that includes about two dozen countries will meet in Washington next week. The current U.S. draft plan requires Hamas to surrender weapons capable of striking Israel as a second-phase condition.
However, the plan tentatively allows Hamas to keep some small arms initially. A senior Hamas official has rejected any surrender of weapons, insisting such steps are unacceptable.
As a result, negotiations remain contentious, with Israel continuing to assert that Gaza’s demilitarization is essential for peace.
Strategic Dynamics and Next Steps
In addition to influencing negotiation content, Israel seeks to limit Washington’s willingness to offer concessions to Tehran.
Netanyahu’s visit, the seventh since the current U.S. administration began, highlights sustained diplomatic coordination with Washington.
Moving forward, continued dialogue on both Iran and Gaza will shape regional security dynamics in the coming weeks.
