The Debut of Di Space Robots
Electric vehicle giant BYD plans to unveil its first humanoid robots this August. The Shenzhen-based company will officially debut these advanced machines at its interactive Di Space experience centers. Consequently, these new robots will function as much more than simple concept products. In fact, they will actively interact directly with everyday showroom visitors. Therefore, this highly anticipated launch significantly accelerates the massive push of Chinese automakers into the embodied artificial intelligence market.
Competition with Tesla and Regional Rivals
This strategic move directly challenges Tesla and its famous Optimus project. Previously, BYD executive Stella Li confirmed a huge corporate investment in advanced AI technologies. She confidently predicted that China would become the first global market to fully commercialize humanoid robots. Meanwhile, regional competitors like Xpeng, Li Auto, and Xiaomi are rapidly developing their own automated systems. For instance, Xpeng expects to mass-produce over 1,000 units of its Iron robot monthly by the end of 2026.
Supply Chain Dominance and Trade Tensions
Ultimately, this fast-paced technological race highlights an intensified rivalry over physical AI. Because of rapid Chinese progress, the US Federal Communications Commission recently banned imports of new Chinese humanoid robots. However, analysts note that China currently maintains a massive edge in the global robotics supply chain. The Asian country proudly hosts nearly 100 dedicated humanoid robot makers today. As a result, Chinese tech companies now account for more than 70 percent of the entire global market.
