International technological and intelligence disputes regarding China rejects report of spy plot targeting Nvidias Jensen Huang claims escalated on Friday. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially dismissed media reports alleging that a Chinese data center executive in Singapore targeted Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang for intelligence gathering, characterizing the allegations as baseless speculation.
The dispute follows a report indicating that US intelligence officials previously monitored Alice Huang, a senior executive at Singapore-based cloud provider Megaspeed. According to the claims, intelligence agencies evaluated whether the executive used her professional relationship with Jensen Huang to monitor AI chip shipments to China. However, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun denied the accusations during a Friday briefing, describing them as an attempt to smear Beijing’s international reputation.
Concurrently, Nvidia representatives clarified that corporate interactions with regional cloud customers follow standard commercial protocols. A company spokesperson stated that Megaspeed received ordinary commercial information rather than sensitive trade secrets or national security data. Furthermore, Nvidia emphasized that prior allegations regarding chip smuggling through Singapore were thoroughly investigated and disproved last year.
The intelligence controversy comes amid an expanding technological competition between Washington and Beijing surrounding advanced artificial intelligence capabilities. Although US President Donald Trump was reportedly briefed on the intelligence findings a year ago, no administrative enforcement actions were taken.
Meanwhile, diplomatic channels regarding AI security remain open. President Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping last month to discuss international AI governance frameworks and superintelligence safety controls. As both world leaders prepare for additional bilateral discussions in November, technology trade restrictions and supply chain security continue shaping diplomatic relations.
