China’s commercial aviation sector reached a major historical benchmark this week. Specifically, Air China will launch the China C919 first international route on August 12, connecting Beijing Capital International Airport directly with Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Consequently, this landmark flight marks the official expansion of the country’s flagship narrowbody jet beyond domestic and regional corridors into regular international passenger operations
Launching the China C919 First International Route
National carrier Air China announced it will operate daily round-trip flights between the two capital cities using the domestically produced passenger jet. For example, outbound flight CA723 will depart Beijing at 3:00 p.m. local time and arrive in Ulaanbaatar at 5:15 p.m. Meanwhile, the return flight CA724 will leave Mongolia at 6:30 p.m. every evening.
Developed by state-owned manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the single-aisle aircraft was built to compete directly against popular narrowbody models like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. Although the aircraft previously serviced regional flights to Hong Kong, this daily commercial connection to Mongolia represents its official international debut.
