Allegations of Chinese Interference
US President Donald Trump recently accused China of actively fueling nationwide resistance against AI data centers. During a California visit, Trump claimed that Beijing aggressively promotes this domestic backlash because the United States currently leads the global artificial intelligence race. Consequently, he argued that China spends vast amounts of money to stall American infrastructure projects. Trump firmly defended the rapid construction of these facilities by highlighting their significant economic benefits. He specifically noted that many new plants successfully generate their own electricity and sell excess power back to the local grid.
Domestic Backlash and Grassroots Protests
Despite the president’s strong support, massive opposition to AI infrastructure continues to surge across the country. Recently, a grassroots group called Humans First organized 142 protests across 42 different states. Residents in rural and conservative-leaning communities actively raise severe concerns regarding rising electricity costs, heavy water consumption, and rapid farmland conversion. Furthermore, recent polling data indicates that roughly 70 percent of Americans strongly oppose building data centers near their homes. As a result, this growing resistance reportedly drives a deep wedge through Trump’s own political base ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
Military Threats and Iran Negotiations
During the same interview, Trump aggressively addressed the prolonged and increasingly unpopular conflict with Iran. He directly threatened Tehran with the largest American military strike since the Second World War. Specifically, the president demanded immediate Iranian compliance regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz. He explicitly warned that the vital waterway must open very soon or Iranian forces will face severe military consequences. However, Trump also acknowledged that bilateral negotiations are currently progressing well. Ultimately, he claimed that Iranian officials politely asked to talk and maintain highly productive discussions with his administration.
