Typhoon Bavi

Typhoon Bavi loses eye but system expands to 1,263 times the size of Hong Kong

Weakening Core and Expanding Danger

Typhoon Bavi has officially weakened to a severe typhoon status. Despite this drop in central wind speed, the storm’s overall cloud system expanded dramatically. The system now covers an area roughly 1,263 times the size of Hong Kong. Although the typhoon’s eye completely disappeared, experts warn that the system remains highly dangerous. Specifically, the storm’s energy has dissipated from the core into the outer wind layers. Therefore, this structural change could lead to much longer-lasting rainfall and widespread secondary disasters.

Widespread Flight Cancellations and Precautionary Measures

Airlines have already canceled numerous flights across at least ten major airports. To assist passengers, multiple carriers are offering fee-waiver rebookings and full refunds. Meanwhile, coastal cities are actively executing extensive emergency preparations. For example, local farmers are scrambling to secure fish ponds and harvest vulnerable crops. Furthermore, multiple coastal parks and popular tourist resorts have officially closed to ensure public safety. Senior officials also ordered repeated reservoir water discharges to safely accommodate the forecasted torrential rain.

Regional Impacts and Military Standby

The massive storm system is predicted to bring heavy rainfall across several diverse regions. Consequently, Taiwan has stepped up its emergency preparations by placing multiple northern areas under heightened flood alerts. Taiwanese authorities announced that roughly 28,000 troops are currently on standby for immediate deployment. In addition, officials issued a critical red warning for a landslide-dammed lake in Hualien. Meanwhile, neighboring regions like Guangxi are simultaneously clearing debris from previous storm damage while bracing for Bavi’s arrival.
