Evidently, this collapse has been heavily exacerbated by a long-standing United States trade embargo. Which intensified drastically after the US directed energy policies that stopped Cuba from receiving its vital oil supplies from Venezuela.
Explicitly, amid this escalating pressure and fuel blockade, the first batch of a promised 60,000-ton emergency food aid package from China. Consisting of 15,000 tons of rice—has arrived at the port of Havana. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly expressed deep gratitude for the donation. Framing it as a vital gesture of solidarity that will be distributed across all provinces to assist millions of citizens, as well as healthcare and educational institutions.
Hence, the emergency shipment highlights the strengthening geopolitical and practical cooperation between Havana and Beijing during a period of intense diplomatic friction with Washington. Chinese Ambassador Hua Xin emphasized that the shipment represents China’s largest food aid to Cuba in recent years.
