A critical Yemen envoy Bab al-Mandeb warning highlighted growing risks to global maritime security along the Red Sea. Yemeni Ambassador to Qatar Rajeh Badi stated on Wednesday that renewed Houthi military advances threaten strategic shipping lanes.
Specifically, Houthi forces advanced across the Taiz mountain range toward coastal positions near al-Makha and al-Waziyah. Because these high-altitude positions overlook vital maritime choke points, government officials expressed concern regarding international trade stability. Consequently, international observers monitor how military developments impact global energy and food supply chains.
Government forces responded by opening counter-offensives across Al-Jawf, Marib, and Al-Bayda provinces. For this reason, Ambassador Badi emphasized that blocking the Bab al-Mandeb strait could create severe economic disruption comparable to the Strait of Hormuz.
In fact, the waterway links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, serving as a primary corridor for international commerce. Meanwhile, Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Maliki reported Houthi ballistic missile and drone strikes targeting southern Saudi Arabian cities including Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Jizan. Therefore, regional defense coordination remains under heightened operational alert.
Diplomatic representatives characterized the military push as part of broader regional proxy dynamics supported by Tehran. Indeed, officials noted that Houthi strategies aim to frame the conflict as a direct war with Saudi Arabia rather than an internal Yemeni struggle.
Meanwhile, government leaders reiterated that thirteen years of peaceful dialogue and signed agreements produced no lasting political solution. Furthermore, international diplomatic backing remains necessary to restore state authority and secure international waters.
