Defense officials from Israel and Greece signed a major defense agreement on Monday. The export contract is valued at approximately 3 billion euros, which equals 3.5 billion dollars.
Under the contract, Israel will construct a multi-layered air defense framework for the Hellenic Armed Forces. Consequently, this agreement represents the largest military export pact in the history of Israeli-Greek relations.
System Capabilities and Industrial Cooperation
The comprehensive program is officially designated in Greece as the Achilles Shield. The defense framework integrates advanced missile systems, including David’s Sling and Spyder air defense platforms.
Additionally, the package includes modular BARak MX missile systems and multi-mission radar equipment. Israel will also supply a national command and control center. Furthermore, an extra contract worth 30 million dollars was signed to provide anti-drone technology.
Regional Security and Strategic Modernization
Greek military leadership previously approved the procurement framework in July. This initiative forms a central part of a broader 31.8 billion dollar military modernization effort.
The complete defense deal will be fully operational within 35 months. Moreover, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that both nations share vital strategic interests. Therefore, deepening security ties helps counter regional instability and safeguards mutual interests across the Eastern Mediterranean.
